Extremely Slow (48.47 MB/s) Intel Raid R10 Reads

    thehoffr

Below is from an old post but want to piggy-back on it because my R10 drives are only getting (48.47 MB/s).  They are 4 drives rated at 6G/s disks.  I've inserted my systemReport at the bottom after the post as you instructed the person SOURAV_GUPTA below.

CAN YOU HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON?

      Thanks, David

In order to address this matter in the most accurate way I would like to request your system report for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology, please follow the instructions here to get this report: System Reports for Intel® Rapid Storage Technology. Once done, attach the file.

To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" in the top right corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear in the bottom right corner of the response box.

          Hello thehoffr,

Thank you for contacting Intel® Technical Support.

As we understand, you need assistance with your Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise (Intel® RSTe). If we infer correctly we will appreciate if you can provide us with the following information:

          • The SSU logs.

1-            Go to https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26735/ and download the software.
2-            When finished downloading it, open it.
3-            Attach the file obtained to your reply.
          • We will like to know the tool that you are using to measure the drive performance.
          • We noticed that some of your drives status is “Status:  Verifying and repairing 1% complete” this can highly influence in the performance of your PC. And we will like to know the process that you are running on this drive.

We will be looking forward to your reply.

              Hello thehoffr,

              Thank you for your reply.

We have been working in reviewing the information you provide us and we noticed the following:

Based on the logs you provided seems to be that you have the following RSTe driver installed:

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology enterprise Information
              User interface version:  4.3.0.1542

RSTe spanning filter driver is absent

In the MSI* website we noticed that the recommended version for your board is the 3.8.0.1108.

Please, download, install and test this version in your system and let us know the results.

I so thank you a Million Times !!   I am looking at the events viewer and currently see firmware failures too, so not just the RSTe.

PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED SNIPS OF THE EVENT VIEWER

I have the original software CD (screen snip).  If I reinstall fresh for the drivers is there any risk you think?  See screen snip of installer saying I'm overwriting with older versions.

In other words, are there configs also on the raided disks themselves that would corrupt something using older (original) drivers?  Rolling back drivers..

Thank you again so much for this help, computer works, but I don't like all these errors and am not completely familiar with this level of troubleshooting.

ps: Long time ago I was an independent Oracle DBA consultant/installer but too many years ago +20 now ..

                  Thank you for your reply

Based on the pictures you shared your system is showing us different errors related to limitation on the hardware and could be related to the driver currently installed on your system since is a generic version, seems to be that is trying to get more resources that the ones available on the board.

We do recommend you to back up your information and to uninstall the current drivers of your system and to try to install the drivers that came with your motherboard.

                  Let us know the results.

I've had a dozen other obligations lately, but please keep this ticket open.

I was going to "downgrade" drivers to the "original" for this computer for the CD.  But the following link is for this MB with the latest bios and drivers.

Support For X79A-GD65 (8D) | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design | MSI USA

I will image backup and instead install the latest for this board, HOWEVER is there any risk it will "wipe out my drives" data forcing a DISK reformat, on any of the RAIDS?  Or screw up anything you can think of?  NO LIABILITY HERE, just want to ask for a helpful opinion.

                    --

FYI:  This computer was built by me to dabble in filmmaking, and running a business has been difficult to devote the attention to the endeavor, but I want to fix the issues.  It's still a smoking powerful computer with lots of power even as old as it now is.

Update soon and thanks again, David Hoff

The risk of data lost because of the driver update is really low but is always recommended to have a verified backup of your data before processing any change on the software or the hardware components of your PC.

Take your time with this process we will keep this ticket open and we will follow up with you every now and then in order to be updated in your progress.

Please, take into consideration that this process is recommended in order to discard a hardware issue or limitation.
